Drum For Health

Logo

This special additional blog from the Worldwise Samba Drummers is to let you know about our involvement in the Drum For Health project. This international drumming project is connected to ‘Make Music Day’ and ‘World Mental Health Day’. Taking part in the project are over 15 bands from countries such as the UK, USA, Spain, New Zealand and Canada. The bands are promoting the use of drumming and movement to support and improve mental and physical health.

The project, curated by Swan Samba based in Hampshire, will see a range of workshops and performances being led by the samba bands involved. These bands have seen how drummers of all ages and abilities come out of drum sessions positive, recharged and happy and want to share this positive experience with others. The fact that so many bands are involved highlights how this music brings people together and forms a sense of community.

Jon and some of the other band members will be running a free drumming workshop 11am-12pm on Saturday 5 October as part of the Fun Palace taking place at Lancashire Archives on Bow Lane. The band will then be performing on the same day from 1.35pm on the flag market as part of Preston Wellfest. New members or people just wanting a one-off go at drumming are then invited to come to the UCLan Media Factory, Kirkham Street off Fylde Road, 6.15pm-8.15pm on Wednesday 9th October to try one of the band’s regular sessions free of charge.
